Level measurement and indicator devices and methods are integral part for processing control in many different industries. There are two different types of level measurement sensors;

Point level measurement sensors:  these are used for marking the height of single discrete liquid that is a present level condition. It is generally used as low alarming or for over fill alarming condition and is one of the methods of liquid level indication.
Continuous level sensors: these are more sophisticated type of liquid level indicators. They can be used to monitor the level of the complete system. They measure the range of the fluid level instead of measuring the level just at one point or place. This results in production of an analog output which correlates directly with the level in the vessel. The process control loop and visual indicator is directly connected to the output signal for the creation of the level management system.

There are different devices and level measurement sensors available in the market. But before deciding which level measurement sensor you need to buy, you should keep some questions in mind.

Whether you are measuring the liquid or gas?
What are the ranges of application temperature and ranges of pressure?
Whether you require to measure point level or continuous measurement?
Which range of level measurement you need?
Is the measured material good electrical conductor?
Is turbulence, foam or vapors takes place on the liquid surface?
Do you need a contact or non-contact measurement level?
Do you need analog, digital, relay or any other kind of output?

After you have a clear answer to these and other related questions you can look out for the right measurement sensor. There are different designs and variations available in measurement level sensors. Some of the sensors measure the point level while others are continuous level sensors. There are float switches, non contact ultrasonic level indicator sensors, contact ultrasonic sensors, hydrostatic sensors, optical sensors and capacitance level sensors.

The float switches, optical sensors and conductive sensors are the point level measurement indicator sensors while hydrostatic sensors, capacitance sensors and ultrasonic sensors are the continuous level measurement sensors.

The principle function of liquid level indicators is to make sure that all the industrial operations work smoothly due to their ability to monitor and control liquid levels in big trucks vessels and pipelines in different kinds of industrial organizations. The ultrasonic liquid level indicators are distinctive from the other kinds of indicators due to the reason that it is not placed in direct contact with the liquid instead it acts as a radar which emits high frequency acoustic waves with the frequency range of 20 KHz to 200 KHz directly towards the liquid. The signal which it reflects is detected by the transmitter. A table is then used for the translation of time that a particular wave frequency takes to travel through air. Then the distance it takes to reach from the surface of the liquid to the transmitter is calculated through simple subtractions which provide the liquid level.

Running of shipping transportation business is one of the most strenuous and hard working businesses. This is because of the reason that beside all the other constraints such as meeting the deadlines, checking the cargo etc., the individual has to fight and always keep a guard against the leaks and cracks that keep on appearing and damaging the goods or items in the cargo hatch covers. Fighting against the odds of leaks and cracks is one of the oldest fights that is taking place between the owners of the ship and the vast blue oceans. The appearance of cracks or leaks in the ship while transporting the goods means huge losses to the ship owner as he ends up making payments to the clients for the damaged goods and the insurance companies.

Without proper and precise detection and checking, it is almost impossible to prevent and repair the existing leaks. For this purpose, checking the tightness of hatch with ultrasound provides one of the best solutions to this problem. Leaks and cracks can appear at the unexpected and unpredicted spaces and places in the ship, from where they enter the cargo and causes damage, making them useless. According to the policies of the shipping business, the damage of the goods on board should be paid to the client by the owner of the ship. This means that in case of any undetected leakage or crack, the fortune of ship owner is at stack.

The only way to repair the leaks is their accurate and pin point detection, otherwise they remain hidden. It is beyond human power to detect the exact location of the leaks in huge and giant ships, with the naked eye, without using any kind of device, apparatus or gadget for the purpose. The touching tools such as Hatch Cover Ultrasonic Tightness Testing can provide best solution for this problem. If you think that you can do it without making use of any device or gadget, then you are absolutely wrong. It will not only waste your time but will also cost you thousands of dollars to complete the task.

By making use of Hatch Cover Ultrasonic Tightness Testing tool, it is very convenient, cost effective and highly efficient to detect any kind of leakage or crack in the ship or hatch covers. The device of ultrasonic tightness testing makes it possible to detect the leakages in the shortest span of time which save your ship from delays. This enables your shipping company to develop sound credibility and reliability in the market. The shipping companies who are still not taking advantage of this superb cost effective and easy to operate tool, are facing many problems in the industry. They are wasting their time, money and energy by not making use of this hatch cover testing tool. They can never provide guarantee that their ship is absolutely hole and crack free. This not only results in the loss of their clientele but also in the loss of their reputation in the market.

<div style="text-align: justify;">The liquid level indicators have gained immense popularity and demand all over the world especially on the industrial scale. It is due to their convenience of use to measure the liquid levels in huge tanks and containers. Out of all liquid level measuring devices, ultrasonic level indicator devices are in increasing demand not only in the industrial sector of US but globally. It’s due to its simplicity of use and cost effectiveness. It offers multipurpose solutions which no other liquid level indicator device offers.

The mechanism of ultrasonic level measuring devices is based on the emission of ultrasonic waves from the transducer which travels towards the liquid object. For acquiring precise and accurate measurements of the liquid level, it is vital that the path of the ultrasonic waves should be clear from any kind of obstacles. There are different factors that can affect and obstruct the path of the ultrasound waves such as bubbles, foam, pebbles, corrosion, access hatches inside the tank, temperature etc. Such obstacles can cause variations in the readings of the device leading towards inaccurate measurements.

It is a characteristic of ultrasonic waves that they expand as they travel through the distance unlike other kinds of waves which travel in straight lines. With the increase in the distance traveled, the ultrasonic waves widens, there is a possibility that they may collapse due to the obstructions in their path, and gives incorrect readings.

To avoid this problem and to get the most precise and accurate readings, the best way is to install a stand-pipe inside the container or tank. It acts as guide to the ultrasonic waves attracting them directly towards the desired liquid target and preventing them to move towards any other false targets.

Any smooth pipe or a tube with smooth walls can be used as a wave guide. The tube needs to be de-burr and cut at the angle of 45 degrees before placing into the container. This does not allow the standing waves to form inside the tube. The standing pipe also prevents ultrasound waves from the gas bubbles which might be formed on the surface of the liquid.

The changes and variations in the temperature of the liquid can also affect the readings of the ultrasonic level indicator. It is necessary to use a temperature sensor to control and compensate the effect of the temperature on the movement of ultrasound waves. It helps to create an overall balance in the measuring enabling the ultrasonic level measuring device to give accurate and precise readings.

The ultrasonic devices are highly cost effective. You just need to spend money on buying it. You do not need a team to train to operate the device instead a single person can easily operate this device. You just need to have a smart mind to understand the working and functioning of the gadget and just need to create an obstruction free environment to gain precise and highly accurate liquid level measurements, with least amount of energy and cost.

watertight compartment doors testingRunning a leaking ship is just equal to running a risky business or gambling with your reputation and money. The transport industry is under heavy fire from critics who are mostly former customers of this industry and have lost their valuable consignments to the leaking hatch covers of the transport ships. Ships that have no hatch cover maintenance and watertight integrity testing are mostly the culprits which are responsible for letting the image of the industry down. Due to the ignorance of these ship’s owners and crew, these ships let the goods get destroyed by water during their voyages.

In many cases it has not only been the customer who lost valuables due to the leaking hatch covers and leaking body parts in a ship, even the ship owners have had to wash their hands from their precious ship which either blew up, caught fire and sunk to the lowest depths of the oceans. It happens when the water starts entering from the leaks without control. In many cases water has entered the cables of the ship which are its nervous system. Entering these cables, the water caused a short circuit and blew up everything. Observing these issues, it became necessary to keep a check on the cables and the cable transit areas watertight testing became obvious. This helps protect the nervous system of the ship and keeps it safe from any kind of damage and short circuit as long as the ship is being used and is making voyages.

Apart from the hatch covers, there are many other moving components on the ship and they also catch rust and spring leaks. Topping the list are the compartment doors which are a huge problem to the ships because when they spring a leak, there is no stopping of the water entering the compartments. When water starts entering the compartments it starts increasing the weight of the ship. If water enters the ship without control, it can clearly disrupt the balance of the ship and there is a great chance that the ship might tilt and turn turtle. Since a transport ship carries immense weight, tilting it can be deadly resulting in not only a loss to the ship, but every person onboard and everything it carries. This is the reason why the watertight compartment doors testing have become very important so that there is no chance of the water entering the compartments and endangering its balance and well being.

Have you ever wondered where does all the clean water come from whenever you turn the tap? We all know there are a million ways in which thousands or even in tens of thousands gallons of water is being wasted worldwide and even though the usable water on this planet is in a minimal percentage, we still get clean water every day. Surely there is not an unlimited supply of water available on this planet, the huge cleaning and filtering plants set up by the government keep providing us with clean water on a daily basis. Filtering the dirty water and making it usable is not an easy task at all. It requires a lot of concentration and monitoring of the entire processes to make sure there is no contamination in the water and that it is fit for human use.

The first step begins by fitting an underground suction pipe in the drains that flow with the contaminated water from the city. The suction pipe is fitted with a liquid level indicator monitored by authorized personnel who keeps it open only until the required amount of water enters the storage tank. The storage tank is specially designed to contain a certain amount of water which is then released into the pipes leading all the way towards the filtration plants. As the water is passed on from the initial storage tank, it travels a long way to reach the plant where it will be passed from many filters and treated with the harmless chemicals to kill all the bacteria that have born in it while passing through the many sewerage pipes.

As soon as the water reaches the filtration plant, it is sent for a lab test where the number of impurities and bacteria is determined. In case there has been a mixing of some other chemical or hazardous material which cannot be treated, it is flushed out immediately and a fresh intake of water is initiated. When the water passes the lab test, the tank is opened for the water to reach the treatment plants to clean it. The water moves on passing through various stages of filters, gravel, sand and even chalk. All of these have absorbing properties and the filth is filtered only to let the water pass on. After the water is passed through many filters, it reaches the second last stage where it is chlorinated to kill all the bacteria that might have survived and it enters the final tank where it is measured with the ultrasonic level indicator. Measuring the amount of water which is available to be passed back into the city, a record is created to ensure that the quota has been delivered.

There is no argument about the need of a ship to stay leak free to be able to serve its purpose in the best way. One of the busiest categories of the ships today is the cruise ships which carry hundreds of people to their joyful voyage. While these ships compete with the highest charging hotels on the planet it is necessary for them to be extremely luxurious, stylish, filled with the latest technology and be absolutely leak proof and weather proof. There are a lot of factors that cause damage to ship’s body and create leaks and holes in it, it is the crew’s task to make sure they are removed within time and not single drop of water enters the ship.

Since a cruise ship has the biggest network of electric cables all around it hidden beneath the fashionable walls and the elegant ceilings, it is a must for the cable transit areas watertight testing to ensure that no sparking or short circuit ever takes place. A single drop of water can cause the biggest damage such as starting a fire or even blowing a hole in the ship. Any unfortunate incident cannot only endanger the ship’s well being and reputation, but it can also endanger the safety of all the people onboard and cause a death toll which is irreparable and irreplaceable ever again.

Most of the cruise ships have a built in swimming pool to entertain their guests and provide the luxury of taking a swim while the ship is moving on its course. The ship already faces a lot of threats regarding rust due to water; the added water on its deck can increase the chances of rust a hundred times. Hence it is necessary to maintain cleanliness on the deck and the other compartments so that the water which can enter inside the ship in the form of wet towels or wet bodies does not start rusting the ship’s interior and create an unwelcome leak.

No matter how hard the crew tries to keep the cruise ship dry and tidy, there is always potential of rust or a leak to be formed and watertight compartment doors testing must be done regularly. With the help of the ultrasonic hatch cover and leak tester, this test can be conducted even when the guests are onboard and the ship is sailing on its voyage. The test is simple and quick, hence the staff can run the test if there is any complaint of the water entering the areas where it shouldn’t. If a leak is found during the voyage it can be treated unless it is not a major leak which requires taking off a lot of body parts. This way the ship can sail safely and joyously on its voyage bringing in cash to the registers with every mile it travels.

Have you ever wondered where do all these huge tankers unload as you pass them on the highways? Such a huge amount of liquids can only be unloaded in a container of the similar capacity or greater. Without a doubt, these huge tankers are seen heading towards the different factories situated on the outskirts of towns and villages. These huge factories have a storage area to match its gigantic size and the storage tanks present inside them will easily make the tanker shy away as these storage tanks are able to contain the liquids of a dozen tankers.

These huge sized storage tanks are the need for today’s factory. Producing thousands of products within an eight hour shift, these factories can easily consume thousands of gallons of liquids within a week. As far as the consumption is a matter of concern for the staff, the bigger concern is to ensure that the liquid storage tanks do not run dry because even a single hour’s loss can be a huge setback to the unit’s financials and its credibility. Hence there is not just a single liquid storage tank of an unusual size, but there are more than one and each of them is fitted with the liquid level indicator to monitor the level of liquids inside them.

Monitoring these liquids is equally important to using them. Monitoring these liquids helps in more ways than one. First of all it helps to plan out the production targets on a daily basis. As the usable amount comes forth, the production target can be planned out according to the lines and the allowable quota is forwarded to the production lines. The second benefit associated to the monitoring is estimating the production cost of the products which is a huge factor in knowing how much has been spent in the production of the product.

In some cases the factory might require to use some kinds of highly sensitive and highly inflammable liquids such as petrol, kerosene, acids and cyanides. When using these kinds of liquids extra care and safety is required while handling and while storing. Hence these kinds of liquids are stored in single skinned containers so that there is zero percent chance of any misuse or mishandling in the storage area. Since the normal liquid measuring devices are not compatible hence, the use of the ultrasonic level indicator becomes necessary. With its help the single skinned containers can be easily measured whenever required without fearing the safety of the personnel.

It is not a surprise to know that the shipping industry is one of the biggest industries on this planet. Carrying tones of weight from one continent to another, these huge ships are no longer a set of planks joined together, but they are the most advanced machinery present on this planet. The unfortunate fate that this industry faces is the only reason why it is being termed as risky and this factor is none other than the deadly rust. The unwelcome rust appears on the ship’s hatch covers and the different parts of its body due to the high level of humidity and the constant contact with water.

Rust eats away the ship’s body leaving behind a clear hole that allows the water to find its way inside the ship. Once water gets inside the ship’s body there is no limit to the damage it can inflict on the goods it is carrying. These holes are unavoidable, but they are repairable through a process and the first step in this process is the hatch cover maintenance and watertight integrity testing. The importance of these tests is undeniable and without running these tests the process of making the ship leak free cannot commence. Unless the location of the leaks is known there is no way anyone can start repairing them or refilling them.

Even in the older days the ships either transport or any other kind suffered from the leaks appearing in them without any notice. At that time the method to test the integrity and to find the holes in the ship’s body was a slow and expensive process. A large team was required which would keep dousing the ship’s deck and the hatch covers with pails of water and then stand back and monitor where the small whirlpools would appear. No doubt, this process caused even more harm to the ship because more water entered it and caused additional damage. After some time the process became mechanical by using the motors and pumps for water, but still the painful process was not satisfactory.

Today by using the ultrasonic hatch cover tester the holes and leaks are easily found out and the ship does not have to suffer any more pain by taking more water inside it. With the help of the ultrasonic device even the cable transit areas watertight testing has become possible and the ship can remain safe from the short circuit which is another problem faced by the ship owners due to the leaks. Clearly a transport ship does not have enough time to spend on the laborious tests and then the cleaning process afterwards. It is important to keep the processes as short and trustworthy as possible to keep the ship maintained and leak free.

Have you ever noticed that our lifestyle is more focused on the ready made things now rather than the homemade? There was a time not long ago (rewind 3 decades) when people would prepare everything in their homes. The mothers were busy in the kitchen baking pies, cakes, biscuits and preparing yummy meals. The grannies would be seen in their rocking chairs knitting scarves, sweaters and other apparel for their children and grandchildren. Today the picture is entirely different and we now no more have time to spend the lifestyle which we have left so far behind. We are now more focused on our careers and other monetary matters which has clearly made us a slave of the clock.

Our clothes are ready made; our food is fast food which is also a ready made of its own kind. Hence we are now more focused on the things we can purchase from the market and don’t feel the need to do them on our own. This is the exact reason why factories have expanded and why there is a huge need of raw materials in the factories. Everything needs to be prepared by the combination of different objects or materials (to be precise). The factories prepare goods by the same principle as they combine different materials to produce the actual product.

The global demand for such products is increasing rapidly and this is the reason why we see factories under immense pressure. The workers and the machines are pushed to their limit to produce thousands of goods within a single working shift. Hence the need for raw materials in factories has become ravishingly high and everything is procured in bulk. While it is easy to store the solids or the dry materials, storing the high quantity of liquids is a serious issue. The only way to store liquids in such huge quantity is to place them in the gigantic storage tanks fitted with a liquid level indicator.

The use of a liquid level indicator cannot be ruled out because once the liquids have been procured in hundreds or thousands of gallons; it becomes necessary to monitor its use and to keep a record of it too. In case the liquid tanks run dry, there would be no way to resume work as long as the liquids are procured and made available to the production lines. Keeping a record of the liquids provide an opportunity for the staff to alert the procurement department in advance when the liquid levels are down. This can prevent the sudden stop in the production lines and save the facility from a backlog. For precise and pin point accuracy in taking the readings of the liquids inside the storage tanks, a lot of factories are using the ultrasonic level indicator which is by far undeniably the best measuring tool till now.

The shipping industry is one of the biggest and the most profitable industries spread all over the world. But unfortunately a lot of its profits are being wasted in handing out money against the claims filed by customers who have lost their precious goods due to the damage inflicted on them by water. The leaks in the hatch covers cause the water to ingress and the goods inside the cargo holds are heavily damaged by the water. Many goods such as clothes, electronic and electric products and food items can be reduced to rubbish if water touches them and this is why the shipping industry loses a lot of its profits because the water which comes inside the cargo holds inflicts damages. To ensure that these kinds of troubles are not faced by the ship owners, the hatch cover maintenance and watertight integrity testing is very useful because it can notify the crew about the chances of water damage to the goods.

Water damage in a leaking ship is not just restricted to the goods being carried on the transport ship. The ship itself receives a lot of damage due to the water that seeps inside. A lot of ships experience sparking or short circuit in their cable system when the water manages to get inside the cables and inflict damage. Since a ship moves with the help of engines that are both massive and powerful but also produce electricity to run the different machines and gauges in the ship, the ship has a net of electric cables running all around it. If the water comes in contact with any one of the wires and causes a short circuit, the entire ship would be a failed metal unless it has power to move itself again.

When the hatch covers are leaking, there is no doubt that the water has caused rust to many other components of the ship’s body. The different compartments of the ship also get the increased level of humidity and any naked metal spot present inside catches rust easily. The most prominent areas to catch rust are the compartment doors which are in constant use and mostly have their paint shipped off or worn off. They catch rust and develop holes in them which are the biggest cause of leakages. Hence, with the help of watertight compartment doors testing these leaks in the doors can be found and the corrective action may be taken.
